Napier insurance broker David McGuffie has been charged with making dishonest claims to four large insurance companies over a period of two years.

McGuffie is facing four charges of dishonestly using a document, namely insurance application forms, without claim of right between February 2011 and July 2013, Fairfax Media has reported.

The insurance companies affected were Tower Insurance, AIA Insurance, Pinnacle Insurance, and Asteron Insurance.

McGuffie, 50, was the owner and founder of Advanced Insurance Ltd, which went into voluntary liquidation in February 2014.

He is due to appear in Napier District Court later this month.
