'Dishonest' broker to face jury

An insurance broker charged with making dishonest claims has elected for a trial by jury.

Napier insurance broker David McGuffie has entered a not guilty plea to charges of making dishonest claims to four large insurance companies.

McGuffie, 50, appeared in the Napier District Court on Wednesday where he denied making the dishonest claims, Hawke’s Bay Today reported.

He is facing four charges of dishonestly using a document, namely insurance application forms, without claim of right between February 2011 and July 2013.

He elected for a trial by jury and was remanded on bail until 28 August.

McGuffie’s company Advanced Insurance sold insurance through large providers. The dishonest claims he is alleged to have made were to Pinnacle Insurance, Asteron Insurance, Tower Insurance and AIA Insurance.

Advanced Insurance went into voluntary liquidation in February last year, Hawke’s Bay Today reported.
