The Earthquake Commission (EQC) is encouraging customers whose homes and properties were damaged in the Kaikoura earthquakes to file a claim before it’s too late.

Trish Keith, GM customer and claims, said a memorandum of understanding between EQC and private insurers has streamlined the process of resolving home and contents insurance claims.

“Anyone with a house or contents claim should contact their private insurer which are handling all content and building claims for EQC. The deadline for lodging a claim following last November’s event is midnight on February 14, 2017,” Keith said.

“We encourage anyone whose house or property suffered damage and hasn’t made a claim to do so, even if the damage appears minor.

“EQC staff has been working at Recovery Assistance Centres in the region since November 2016 and have been able to quickly identify customers who have suffered a lot of damage and ensure that their claims are being settled.”

Keiith said customers with fire insurance within their home and contents insurance at the time of the event can also lodge a claim.

EQC expects to receive an estimated 3,500 land claims.
